T.J. Herndon nabbed victory at Malden Speedway in Malden, Missouri, back behind the wheel of the Foster Racing #21 GRT running on brakes by The Brake Man. The victory marked his second win for June.
Herndon won the second Heat race which gave him title to the outside front row to start the night’s Feature event. As the Feature got underway, Herndon initially took the lead with a pass to the outside of pole sitter, Ronnie Vernon. Herndon’s early pass was negated by a caution which would force him to re-start on the inside with the high side clearly showing to be the fast way around the track.
After several laps door to door with Steve Piccou, Herndon made the decision to relinquish the second spot in hopes that another caution would allow him to restart on the outside and give him another shot at the lead.
With approximately five laps remaining, Herndon got the caution that he had been waiting on. As the field once again came under green, Herndon’s plan to make yet another attempt at a pass on the high side was successful.
Upon assuming the lead, Herndon started to open up a comfortable lead as Vernon and Piccou battled for the runner-up spot. In the closing laps, Piccou disposed of Vernon and pulled up to Herndon’s rear bumper waiting on a mistake. In the final two laps, the Atwood Outlaw took the #21 to the top and held on to take the win.
